Taoist Dragons with Moon Phases

New from Ming Tees . OK, another weird one. This design combines symbols i found on a long scroll in a Taoist art text. The central image is the ying and yang symbols conjoined with the seed, or the meditator in the middle, surrounded by the phases of the moon. The pair of dragons were done from an image from the public domain, as it’s way over MT’s drafting abilities. The white circle with a dot in the middle is a stylized pearl.

Plum Blossoms - Found Handmade Found Ming Tees

Ming Tees Plum Blossom Moon shirt, (first posted on this blog a few months ago) above got found and blogged by a wonderful new website called Found Handmade in a section featuring items with plum blossom designs.

Which reminded MT that this shirt design was actually scheduled for a spring makeover. So we changed what was originally lipstick red blossoms to pink, and lightened up the yellow of the moon. Not as much primary color punch maybe, but a bit more subdued and looks better on more shirt colors. Shirt with revised design at the top.

Plum blossoms bloom in winter , and Found Handmade's wintertime plum blossom feature prompted MT to take a look at our other shirts, and found no less than five of MT's own designs featuring plum blossoms. So MT needs to get out of an apparent rut and find some new blossoms, new flowers, and probably some totally new subjects altogether.

Ming Tees is weeding out some deadwood in designs, and this one was slated to ride the needle on the 86 list. But there was still something about it i kind of liked, so i gave it a facelift instead, so i think i'll keep it around awhile more. It is much better now. Taoist yin yang symbol of change, surrounded by a flower ring design inspired by Chinese tapestries.

Plum Blossom Moon

Ming Tees must have mailed it in on this one, could we get any more cliche? T shirt design inspired by the classic Plum Blossom Moon of Japanese haiku, but without the ethreal feel. But i already had a few shirt designs with white plum blossoms, so i thought i'd try for something with a bit more punch.

Japanese Style Magnolia Blossoms

Granted, this design on the left is in a very weird style. This style is from Japanese textiles from the early part i think of last century, but i can't remember if it was the 1930's, '40's, '50's or even '60's. Lots of white and monochrome, lacy type patterns, airbrushed type shading, and the ones i found were what looked like peonies and mums. But Ming Tees actually managed to get some decent magnolia shots last spring, and figured to give them the honors instead. And since magnolias are such gorgeous colors,it seemed a shame to waste them on just a monochrome, so i coughed up a color version as well.

Boo. Auspicious Chinese Bats and Peaches

Ming Tees is always a few days late and more than a couple of bucks short, but this shirt design is as close as MT gets to holiday pimping and pandering. It has a few bats, and some orange, right? So good enough. I first fell in love with this style of bat on a Chinese tapestry. Five bats symbolize the 5 blessings – health, wealth, virtue, a long life, and a natural death. Peaches symbolize immortality, and the Shou symbol (long life) for extra good luck. Nothing at all to hate.
